Getting Around Tahiti

Getting around Tahiti by road, sea, and air. Information on car hire, domestic airlines and ferry services.

TRANSPORT

Perhaps the most popular mode of transport, and one that lets visitors meet the residents, is the public bus, called le Truck. This safari-style bus runs regularly around most of the more populated islands.

There are also taxis on larger islands, though they can be expensive. There are many rental bikes, scooters and cars available and international and valid overseas licences are accepted.

Transport between islands is fairly easy. Ferries run several times a day to Moorea. Other islands are serviced with frequent flights and less frequent ferries.

All the major roads are paved.
