THINGS TO SEE AND DO The Society Islands are just one of many island groups in French Polynesia (see map above ). Tahiti is the principal island and carries with its name the whole Polynesian mystique. For many people, Tahiti means "e;all of French Polynesia". Its international airport at Faaa, not far from the capital of Papeete is also a stepping stone to the many resorts in the island group.
